"My Story" - Josh Alanskas
MY STORY: I was never a gifted athlete. However, one thing I have always possessed is a relentless work ethic. From a young age, I had a chip on my shoulder and told myself that even though I may not be as athletic as some of the athletes I was competing against, I can always try to be the hardest worker in the room. This mentality carried with me to High School, where I played both Football and Lacrosse. Following my Sophomore year, I made up my mind that I wanted to play scholarship college football, and I would do whatever it took to make this dream a reality.
There was only one option for me if I wanted to make this happen. I had to become bigger, faster, and stronger. While I didn't know it at the time, a lot of the training I was doing was not applicable for athletes. However, I still found my way to a DII football team following my senior year. I kept the same mentality once I entered my college career. Even though I wasn’t as gifted as some of the other athletes in the program, I was determined to find a way onto the field. After a few years, I discovered Advantedge. I got bigger, faster, and stronger than I ever had in the first summer I trained at the gym. This led to me getting on the field, and achieving my goal. Following my career, I knew I wanted to stay involved with athletics in some way. This led to me pursuing a career in strength and conditioning. With Advantedge’s partnership with Finlandia University, it was a perfect fit for me. I get to work with collegiate athletes, while also being able to help the Keweenaw Area’s high school athletes.
After being able to achieve my goal of playing college football, I knew I wanted to help others achieve their goals, whatever they may be. This is what drives me to attack everyday. Helping others achieve results is the best part of being in the strength and conditioning industry. One of my coaches once told me “You get better or worse every day, you don’t stay the same”. I strive to improve everyday in everything I do. The athletes I am lucky enough to train are the reason I’m excited to come to work each and every day.
It is my vision to become the best possible S&C coach I can. I want to be able to help every athlete that comes through our doors be able to accomplish their goal, whatever that may be. None of what we do is possible without the people who give us a chance to assist them. It is my vision to have an impact on everyone that trusts us to train them.
