Have you ever been to a sporting event where you see a team raise their hands in the air with 4 fingers up at the end of the 3rd quarter? This is widely used all over the country with many high school teams and universities. I was fortunate enough to play for a University that adopted this ideology from coaching legend Coach Buck Nystrom.

Over the course of my career at Northern Michigan University, these words became a way of life! So much so that the 4th Quarter Mindset became a core value at AdvantEdge! 


Once that 4th quarter came around we as a team knew we were leaving everything out on that field, win, lose or draw. We were going to give winning effort, play with passion and enthusiasm, the courage to play through adversities, the discipline to play at a high level when fatigue set in, and the pride to play for more than ourselves but also the alumni that came before us, and the recruits to come after us. 

Our Plan

Days turn into weeks, weeks turn into months, and months turn into years. Next thing you know you’re in a rut, and can't seem to get out of it. Sound familiar? Yea, sounds painfully familiar to me right now, this past year has been a blur to say the least and I am more than ready to get back on track and get back to this 4th Quarter Mindset

We are fully adopting this mindset into our training framework this year. 4th Quarter Mentality isn't a challenge or a temporary solution, it is a mindset and a change in your way of life- something to live by.

As we all know, there are 4 quarters in a calendar year. In order to get the most out of the year, you will need to attack each quarter with this mindset. Anyone can do great in one or 2 quarters, but what separates you from being good and great is the ability to lock in for 4 quarters, year after year with unmatched physical and mental toughness. 


It is a complete mindset switch. It's you becoming tired of just “getting by”. Its going to allow you to be in control of your day to day and allow you to LIVE life, not let it pass you by.

Week 1: Sleep, you will pick a set time to wake up and go to bed. The goal of this is to start and end your day off with the same routine. 

Week 2: Nutrition, this can be literally anything you want! Just follow a plan, low carb, no carb, fasting, no fast food, WHATEVER you want. Create a healthy nutrition plan that works for YOU and stick to it!

Week 3: Hydration, need to get your water in, good rule of thumb to shoot for is half your bodyweight in ounces. 


Week 5: Mobility, this can be as simple as stretching in the morning, or as complex as a hot yoga class, finish up the session with breathing

Week 6: Outdoor Activity, don’t overthink this, it could be shoveling snow, going on a hike, the goal here is to get outside and enjoy the fresh air!

Week 7: Intentional Family time, set the phones aside and spend some quality time with loved ones. This could be having a SET date night, or a family dinner.


Week 9: Read 10 pages of a book per day (anything to help you level up!)

Week 10: No alcohol, or caffeine, or pop (you know what's holding you back, you decide)

Week 11: Fill the Sleeves (100 extra bicep curls a day)

Week 12: LOCK IN 

Week 13: Start 2022 on FIRE!

This Change Will ...

Help you make the team you are trying out for

Allow you to spend intentional time with your loved ones 

Give you self confidence like never before
